In this theme i will post as many photos as possible from resort Kaimaktsalan...

a few thinks about resort...

Mt Voras Kaimaktsalan in Greece is a small ski resort with:
1- chair lift (2 seater)
1- t-bar
2- plate lifts
2- baby-lifts

It is 140 km from city of Thessaloniki, on the borders with FYROM.

In the top is a small church, which is exactly on the border line.
When there is a snow storm the church has its own beauty.

the main advantage is the altitude. The base of the resort is at 2.023m and the top is at 2.500 (almost)
the map

on the top (on the map) you could see the small church...

as you notice from the map the main advantage is the altitude. The base of the resort is at 2.023m and the top is at 2.500 (almost). Its the most snow-secure resort in Greece. Usually it opens at mid-December, and closed at and of March.
Laste year it closed the first days of April, not because of the lack of snow. The snow was enough. The resort closed because the lack of visitors ! ! 8O 8O 8O

However, it is my favourite resort. Wide slopes for improvement and carving, huge-huge area for freeride...
but..
because of the altitude, and the lack of trees, and also the position, many times the resort is closed because of the strong wind or fog... another times the resort opens, and after 2 hours you could not see in 2 m front of you because of fog.
These days the snow is from 70cm (base) to 150 cm (top). Yesterday the temp was -1 C...(in Greece we have mild winter until now....    :x :x  )
Only this resort has good conditions because of the high altitude...

this is a photo from web camera from 6 Dec 2008

and from 5 Feb 2009

and today (the pic. is refresh every minute i think...its live)

you could see the amount of snow if you compare the snow on the right bottom of the pic. The wood-base of the Davis, is almost barried...

Thanks for the report! I like the ones from exotic places like that. I hope the police didn't pick you out after the Jägermeister Party!
