middle October ski

i will be in Alps for 5 days...from 13-19 Oct.
About skiing, in Austria, as i can see, only in Pitztal the conditions are somewhat ok.

What about Saas - Fee...

you think is better to go to Saas, or perhaps Pitztal? is there any chance to have little more snow until 13-14 Oct?

Also, the slopes in Saas, on Glacier are more easy than the one in Pitztal or same level?

Thanx...

Hi,

I haven't been in Saas Fee yet, so I can't compare the resorts.

There are some precipitations forecasted for next week, but the freezing level and the snow/rain border remain above 3000m.

i have never been in pitztal but very often in saas-fee and hintertux, which should be similar to pitztal.
at least until the first big snow fall you have the best snow conditions in saas-fee in any case.
saas-fee has red slopes, but parallel to the lift there is a black slope (not in the map). you will find rarely a slope on glacier, which is similar steep.

the problem is that my wife is not so good skier...
so i have to find somewhere whith easy slopes either..(blue)

i think Saas will not be the best choice so...

The slopes at the Pitztal Panoramabahn is definitively nothing for unexperienced skiiers, especially not in autumn! Same for Hintertux Gefrorene Wand. Stubai, Kitzsteinhorn, Mölltal, Passo Stelvio have mostly easier slopes, Sölden and Zermatt/Cervinia is somewhere between.

yes...i think that Mölltal is the most appropriate...

hello

I advice you to go Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn, they offer really nice& wide slopes, especially at the Magnetköpflifte (buttonlift at the upper glacier area), which is suitable for beginners and pre-intermediate skiers too.

Mölltal wouldn't be so great, cause :
- at this time will be open only the glacier area, which is served by the six-pack chairlift
- way to overcrowded; tons of training skiteams from Croatia, Slovenia, Poland etc
- the slopes at the glacier aren't so gentle

Stubai would be a great option too, with its gente terrain.

the six-pack chairlift is not a problem...aslo the glacier slopes look exactly what i want (not only for me)
But the training skiteams....well if you say so, that is a problem..

i have been in Stubai, and i know about kitzsteinhorn, but i think that i would found better snow situation in Moelltaler...also they have artificial snow...i think that stubai or kitz, dont have art. snow for upper slopes...
and also those days it looks better in Mollt.

of course isn't a problem, I didn't mind so.

Problem could be the upper slopes at Mölltal, and not only due its overcrowded slopes (thank for the ski teams).
as I said, they aren't gentle slopes, however they are marked as blue, but in the reality they are either red, at least at the upper area.
and you can ski only two slopes at the six-pack express.

The glacier area itself is quite small at Mölltal, the rest of the resort isn't located at the glacier(ice), that means they need tons of snow (cause the underground is rocky) to make them skiable.

The glacier area at Stubai & Kaprun is way bigger.

Yeah, you've right, Kitz & Stubai hasn't got any snowmaking facilities at the upper glacier area, but if it snows (and usually at this time of the year it does), then they offer more terrain for pre-intermediate skiers, than Mölltal.

mmmm...that a very major problem...it is something i dont want...thanx...

yes...thats another problem...i dont see any sufficient snow until 13 Oct...thats the main reason i think of Mölltal (art.Snow)

It has been snowing most of yesterday night, so most glaciers have some fresh snow :) But the Kitzsteinhorn still looks a bit sad, lots of ice and stones on the slopes. The glaciers in Tyrol (Tux, Stubai, Sölden, Kaunertal, Pitztal) look pretty good. Check the cams!

There is a ski depot at the Tuxer Fernerhaus(top station of the Gletscherbus II).

Im not sure how many slopes are open on the different glaciers, you should check each of them at their websites and make a decision. It is a tough one, isn't it

AFAIK is in Sölden the Tiefenbachferner still closed, so skiing is only possible on the Schwarze Schneid II down to middle station, what is less than Mölltal or Kitzsteinhorn offer.

Or the Tuxer Glacier

I just read that the Kaunertaler glacier is closed for skiing. They will decide when the area will open again for skiers coming tuesday(the 13th of october). It will be snowing tomorrow and the day after, so it looks like there will be more slopes opening on the glaciers, making it more attractive :D

I think most snow and most interesting resort should be at Hintertux, but Stubai should be very good too with fresh snow from this week. Kaunertal is OK if you like park & pipe. There is also a great park at Hintertux.
Ski depots you find at Kitz on 2450m, at Tux on 2660m, at Stubai on 2600m and 2900m, at Sölden on 2600m.
So very close to the slopes at all this resorts.

Enjoy snow and have fun!!!
