Easter 2011 - where?
Verfasst: 22.12.2010 - 18:56

I am looking for a resort for 5 days during Easter 2011 (22-26 April)
We will fly to Zurich so i want a resort probably in Switzerland, but not so far from Zurich Airport.
I am thinking of Engelberg, Interlaken, Les Diablerets, St.Moritz (and the area around) or Davos-Klosters.
Do you have any other suggestion?
I am bit confused.
Where do you think its better for end April and near Zurich? (not more than 2-3 hours driving)

By train you can reach Zermatt in acceptable time. Because the altitude of the ski area the conditions are normally good in april.

check out Arosa, there is a youth hostel and train station. travel time is 2:30 from Zurich
Should be cheaper than Zermat/Davos/StMoritz.

From Zurich you can reach Andermatt by train. It takes about 2.5 hours.
I think Andermatt is very cheap, but there are old lifts and the ski area is not as big as Arosa/Davos/Zermatt ...

Are you looking for a "Home Base" in a bigger city, connected with a ski-bus system to the resorts or do you want to travel directly to a resort? Cheaper (but spending more time on the road every day) would be Chur, from which you can reach Lenzerheide, Laax, Arosa and Davos/Klosters by bus/train within short travelling times!

I already went snowboarding in Switzerland several times by flying to Zurich. At the airport you can directly enter the train which brings you in a few minutes to the Zurich main station.
From Zurich main station I took a train towards the east and changed it at
- Landquart, when the destination was Davos (overall train journey approximately 2:37)
- Chur, when the destination was St. Moritz (overall train journey approximately 3:45, but great !)
Other options, which I never tried, are:
- Klosters (25 minutes before Davos, train journey approximately 2:12)
- Arosa (approximately 2:45 train journey)
- Lenzerheide (approximately 2:26, but last part by bus)
- Laax/Flims (approximately 2:08, but last part by bus)
Travelling by train is quite easy and the connections are scheduled so that you usually do not have to wait.
Train tickets are sold at the airport.

thanks a lot for the answers.
I will check out Arosa and LAAX.
Especially LAAX seem nice for end April and its near Zurich.

All of those ski areas should be fine for Easter. I am usually at Davos for Easter and the last two years you were able to ski down to the valley.
St. Moritz should be fine as well (I usually to one or two daytrips to Corviglia (train to Celerina takes 1:22h). But you should note that Corviglia and Davos Parsenn close on the 25th so you would have to choose Davos Jakobshorn/Corvatsch for the 26th. So I would try to stay in Davos and not in Klosters.
In my opinion all of those areas should be fine for Easter (If you don't mind the smaller size of Arosa). I would look for the best Accommodations and decide on that basis.

well...i dont mind so much for the small ski area....its 4 days of skiing, its not a problem at all..
just to have an average quality of snow-grooming..
i will try to find a nice offer for accommodation and then decide
Thanks....
