i went to my favorite resort in Gr...two times.... 20 Feb, and 26 Feb..

at 20 Feb, it was total disaster...the snow was wet, because of high temp, last days..
the wind was too strong...only two plate-lifts was working.....after one hour of going up-donw in a 500 m. slope decided to leave

however, at 26 Feb, everything was good....probably the best day in this mountain for the last years...
snow was generally ok....not so well but ok...wind was not so strong, so all the major lifts were open....

no clouds...sunny day and amazing visibility...could see even the sea (rarely) , and from the top, you could see Albania, FYROM and other resorts of Greece
except that the resort WAS EMPTY...no waiting...no crowds...almost 15-20 people...

PS i also meet Starli, and make little skiing together...Greetings....

according to homepage, or snowreport.gr, the snow is 180cm, to 220cm...

but i think it might be from 140-150 to 200 cm. (max)

this is a small church, build by Servian government...
in WWI in this mountain, there was a big fight between Bulgarians and Serbians...
many Serbians killed...from the other side of the mountain, there is a cemetery of Serbian soldiers...every year people from Serbia used to come and visit the cemetery...

The Battle of KajmakcHalan

The Battle of Kajmakchalan was one battle of the Macedonian Front in World War I. The belligerents of the battle were the Kingdom of Serbia and the Kingdom of Bulgaria. The battle will remain known in history for the great amount of casualties that the Serbian army suffered and for the extraordinary height that the battle was fought.

The battle was fought between September 12 and September 30, 1916, when the Serbian army after suffering huge casualties managed to capture the peak of prophet Ilia on the height of 2.524 meters, while pushing the Bulgars toward Mariovo, where the latter formed new defensive lines. Between September 26 and September 30, the peak changed hands several times till it was captured by the Serbian army on September 30th. Serbians suffered casualties of about 5,000 men, mainly due to the Bulgarian artillery.

By strategic aspect the battle was not a huge success for the Allies due to the upcoming winter that made almost impossible further military engagements. Today there is a serbian church on the peak of Prophet Ilia where the skulls of dead Serbian soldiers are stored, and it is regarded as a tourist attraction.









some parts of the church are from artillery shells, and on the ground you could find empty shells of Schneider machine guns, in cross figures...

is the ash of Rodolphe Archibald Reiss , an Swiss reporter who liked Serbians and use to go with them in many fights during WWI.

according to all these, many use to called the mountain haunted....thats why (they used to say) there is almost always very thick fog, in the top of the mountain....

This is an M8 Greyhound. A light fighter and reconnaissance vehicle of the U.S. Army.
It was built in 1943 in the time of world war 2.
After the war, this vehicle was also in the Yugoslav Army in Action.
Third world countries still use the Greyhound today.

I now that this is not from WWI...except that you said, i dont think that during WWI or Balkan War, Serbian army, or other armies (BG,GR etc) had armored vehicles....

if i mention that this is from WWI, sorry..mistake...
all the other story i mention is from WWI...at least thats what they told us....

i really dont know what happened in this mountain during WWII....
